Live Music at the Canal Market District 2017
One of the stated goals of the Canal Market District is to “instill pride in community while strengthening community identity and promoting local culture and participation in development.” Building on our successful first season the Canal Market District will continue to provide a venue for local musicians to perform. Below find guidelines for performers in 2017. For a PDF version of this information click here.
The Canal Market District (CMD) is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 PM beginning Friday, May 5, 2017 until Friday, September 29, 2017, and Fridays only in October. The Art & Craft Market will be open Saturday 5/13/2017, 6/3/2017, 7/22/2017, 8/5/2017, 9/9/2017, and Sunday 10/1/2017 from 10 AM to 3 PM with music from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Performances will be located in the center pavilion portion of the facility located between Canal and Market streets in downtown Newark.
A PA system, speakers, monitors, and microphones will be available to amplify vocals and acoustic instruments. Limited additional, personal amplification may be permitted by request. Overall volume in the pavilion will be maintained at roughly 80 decibels or lower.
Most Tuesdays and Fridays are available to any interested performer except for the dates coinciding with the Downtown Newark Association Final Fridays and Spring Kickoff. Those times will be by invitation.
CMD Time slots for both Tuesdays and Fridays will be 4:00 to 4:45 PM, 5:00 to 5:45 PM, and 6:00 to 6:45 PM. Performers may request more than one time slot, but availability will depend on the total number of potential acts. Time slots for the Art & Craft Market will be 11:00 to 11:45 AM and 12:00 to 12:45 PM. Check availability on the CMD website at http://www.canalmarketdistrict.org/music. Dates and times marked CMD Music are available.
Performers can send promotional materials to Jazz Glastra (firstname.lastname@example.org), Senior Operations Director, for publication on the CMD website and Facebook page. Musicians are welcome to accept donations when they perform.
To comply with music licensing laws playlists must only include original compositions, songs in the public domain, and music which currently is in the BMI catalog. Negotiations with ASCAP are ongoing.
The Canal Market District is a family friendly environment that appreciates and is considerate of our diverse community so playlists should reflect this fact.
